Broadhempston Area Guide
One of the larger villages which is located approximately 20 minutes from Totnes and with good access to the A38 is 15 mins from Totnes and midway between Exeter and Plymouth. It has an affluent and active community and boasts a lovely 14th century parish churh and 2 pubs (the Monk’s Retreat and the Coppa Dolla).
The community spirit is evident as they got together to obtain funding for the purpose-built Village Hall which has a sports hall and has an incredible amount of activities for the village. With easy pedestrian access this is a much used carbon neutral community facility hosting a huge variety of events from exercise classes to large venue hire for weddings etc. The Playing Field has its own Pavillion and is great for football, hockey and cricket and Tennis Court which are situated half a mile outside of the village. In addition there is also a Community Woodland Project with orchard which has become a focal point for the village.
The community run Shop and Post Office is a real focal point and a great place to have a coffee and catch up with friends and neighbours. You can also get your essentials here all from Devon suppliers whether you want a pie, meat, Sharpham cheese, Riverford veg or wine and beer for your dinner.
Surrounded by picturesque countryside and good walking, and with lovely housing stock from smaller cottages to bungalows, barn conversions and large Victorian houses Broadhempston is a very popular and busy village within good range of many towns.
