South Hams Introduction

The South Hams Intro

Devon’s South Hams (the name derives from the old English Hammes meaning a sheltered place) is a beautiful and varied area with water marking some of its key spots from the riverside towns of Totnes and Kingsbridge, to the lovely ports of Brixham and Dartmouth. Whilst to the north, it includes part of Dartmoor National Park, to the east borders Torbay, and to the west Plymouth. It contains some of the most unspoilt coastline on the south coast, including the promontories of Start Point and Bolt Head. The entire coastline, along with the lower Avon and Dart valleys, form most of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – so all in all it is a very special jewel and one which we are proud to call home.
