Popular friendly Portreath has a pretty, family friendly sandy beach which, like many beaches on the north Cornish coast, is popular with surfers and in particular body boarders who turn up in force at high tide on big swells to surf the harbour wall, or Vortex as it is known.
There are activities for all, from cycling along old tram-roads, to walking on the spectacular cliffs or sitting passing the time in the beach caf.
There are various sports and leisure facilities within a short drive of the village. These include indoor swimming pools, squash, badminton and outdoor bowls. There are six local golf courses, one within a mile, and several centre’s for horse riding, two with indoor facilities.
From the A393 south of Redruth, follow the directions to Porthreath on the B3300. At “The Square” in Portreath continue straight ahead (most traffic will turn left here) and continue on Lighthouse Hill for 0.2 miles. Look out for the private drive on the right hand side and descend the drive and park on the left just past the garage.
