Hound Tor Cottage is a lovely granite and stone built holiday use only barn that nestles in a small courtyard of only six cottages. The small scheme has been beautifully converted from a model farm which dates back to the Edwardian era. Set in beautiful surroundings in the heart of the stunning Dartmoor National Park by an ancient green lane. Surrounded by moorland and accessed via 700 yards of a private drive this south facing property is full of character with an abundance of exposed stone walls, granite mullion windows, a wealth of wonderful beams, and also practical slate and oak flooring.

Restored in 2006 and fully modernised retaining many of the original features one of which is a small mucking out door from the kitchen to what would have been the midden and rings on the walls where the horses were tethered.

Downstairs it has a large open plan living room with slate florring with a sitting area focusing a large log burner which is the perfect place to warm up after a long walk on the moor. There is also a dining area that seats six which opens up to a large fully fitted kitchen with a Sandyford Oil Fired Range which also provides the heating and ot water. Upstairs there is a double master bedroom with ensuite shower room and two further “loft-style” double bedrooms with family bathroom. All of which are full of character and have vaulted ceilings with exposed beams.

Outside
The barn is approached via a cobbled courtyard. There is a small garden behind Hound Tor from where to enjoy a BBQ and the amazing views. Immediately by the front of the barn is parking for one car.

Situation
Set in an enviable position Hound Tor Cottage is located high amongst the most iconic Tors on Dartmoor. Nearby Widecombe on the Moor, a sociable Dartmoor village offers a lively community spirit and monthly farmers markets with two quintessentially English pubs with open log fires and cosy bars. The famous Rugglestone Inn is a short drive away which is popular both in winter and summer due to its large beergarden. Delis, grocers and bakeries can be found in nearby Ashburton which also provides access to the A38 Devon express way to the cities of Plymouth and Exeter and the M5 Motorway.

The cottage itself is surrounded by wild and diverse open stretches of the heather clad Dartmoor countryside. Waterfalls and impressive tors and some of the best walking and riding in the country are within 5 minutes walk.
