Approached through wooden gates down a gravel driveway Swallow Barn is nestled in the un-spoilt Dartmoor countryside with uninterrupted open views over the moor, the vistas are truly breathtaking.
Plaese Note: This property cannot be used as your main home.
A former Granite Barn the property has been sympathetically and completely refurbished to a very high standard and offers luxurious, bright and airy accommodation. Its location is undoubtedly one of its best features being on the western fringes of the stunning Dartmoor National Park, close to the Saxon village of Lydford and its famous gorge.
One hundred yards of a shared private lane leads you to this hidden gem which sits in its own approx. 2 acres of garden. Leading to the front door the paths are flanked by dry stone walls and original granite standing stones. The oak beamed and granite barn is beautifully presented throughout and tastefully restored with modern day living in mind but still retaining many original features.
Downstairs there is a large light and airy open plan fully fitted open plan kitchen made from solid distressed wood and travertine marble flooring which opens onto the large dining area with space for at least 8 people with a double sided log burner. Beyond the dining area there is a vaulted beamed sitting room with floor to ceiling glazed bi fold doors that make the most of the incredible views and also benefits from the log burner. The glazed doors lead out to the sun terrace and garden and when fully open give that inside out feeling. There is a downstairs cloakroom laundry/utility room by the front door accessed via a stone floored lobby.
Upstairs all the bedrooms have lovely views of the garden and Dartmoor. The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and a door leading to granite steps down to the garden. There is a further double bedroom and a single bedroom.
Under the front timber porch there is access to a large boot room which serves as the ‘housekeeping room’ which has plumbing for washing machine and storage. To the side of the barn there is an enclosed area with further storage sheds.
Nearby is the village of Lydford with its historic castle and popular pub. There is easy access to the open moor with unrivalled opportunities for riding, walking and outdoor pursuits. Close by is the delightful Lydford Gorge with its famous waterfall together with the Granite Way, which runs close by. The towns of Okehampton and Tavistock are within easy travelling distance, with an excellent range of shops and services. There is easy access to the north and south coasts of Devon and Cornwall with their attractive beaches and delightful coastal scenery.
From the A30 at Sourton Cross Okehampton, take the direction to Tavistock A386. At Downton turn right to Lydford. At the memorial turn right and continue taking the left fork after a few hundred yards. Take the next left turning into Raddon Farm and down this lane take the first left down a track and Swallow Barn is on the left.
